Before you begin

Start with a layered character you can edit comfortably. This lesson suits learners who already understand character layers and basic rigging. A turnaround shows the same character from several angles; use those views to keep the design consistent as you prepare the character for animation.

  1. Plan the views

Use the video as your reference for the turnaround workflow. List the views you need before editing the artwork, and keep the character’s proportions consistent.

  2. Organise the character layers

Name the head, torso, arms and legs clearly. Compare the layer organisation in the demonstration with your own project before adding more views.

  3. Build and compare each angle

Work through the front, three-quarter, side and back views. Pause the demonstration when needed and check how the silhouette and facial features change with the viewing angle.

  4. Follow the bones and switch-layer demonstration

Use the lesson to study how bones, rigging and switch layers support the character setup. Test each view separately so you can spot misplaced parts or an incorrect layer order.

  5. Preview the turn

Review the sequence of views and look for sudden changes in proportions or clothing placement. Refine the artwork and rig, then save a short preview.

Try it yourself

Create a turnaround sheet with front, three-quarter, side and back views of one simple character. Compare the head size, shoulder height, clothing details and colours across the views. Preview a short turn, correct one visible jump and save both the artwork and your test animation.
